Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Energy efficiency and conservation help you manage your utility bills, lower everyone's long-term energy rates and minimize environmental impacts from electric generation. The OCS strongly supports cost effective energy efficiency and conservation programs often called Demand-side Management Programs (DSM). Energy efficiency programs offer customers incentives to increase efficiency and, therefore, decrease overall electricity consumption. Demand response programs, another type of demand-side management, are designed to decrease customer demand during times of very high system demand or emergencies. When successful, these programs lower consumer energy demands, which in turn avoids the cost of building new utility infrastructure, saves customers money, and lowers pollution associated with the production of electricity and extraction of natural gas.
The OCS is an active participant on the DSM Advisory Group for both Dominion Energy and Rocky Mountain Power and supports the portfolio of DSM programs offered by both utilities. For complete listings of program availability see the following links:
The OCS recommends that you read all program details and requirements carefully prior to your participation to ensure that you take all necessary steps to receive the available incentives.
Some energy efficiency measures qualify for Federal and State tax benefits.
Low income households may qualify for a state weatherization program .
Consumers can take many additional steps toward more efficient use of energy. We've compiled some additional information for residential, small business and agriculture/irrigation customers. Please note that inclusion in this list does not imply endorsement by the OCS or support for any particular program or issue.
