Electricity 101
As consumers, we take it for granted that simply flipping a switch turns the lights on (or the television, or numerous other consumer electronics.) Many of us pay our monthly bill and don't give much thought to the technology and other mechanisms that make our electric service possible. The following sources provide good background on electricity and how it works, including some current data and statistics on the electricity industry.
The Energy Information Administration provides a good overview of electricity in its Energy Explained section .
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is also an excellent source for comprehensive electric data and statistics in the United States.
